Here are the learning objectives for the 8 skill areas that are covered in Leap Into Phonics. Each skill area has several activities that teach that skill. Below are screen shots and descriptions of some of the 26 activities.

Each activity has a demonstration at the beginning, so the child can learn how to play the activity, and the demo can be skipped if the child already knows how to play.

Environmental Sounds


Activity #1:
What Makes This Sound?
The child clicks on the object that makes the sound.

Activity #2:
First/Middle/Last Game
The child hears 3 sounds then clicks on the objects he hears first, middle, and last.

Learning Objective:
To acquaint the child with sound in four environments (farm, city, neighborhood, kitchen) and develop auditory memory.



Activity #3:
Listening to the rhyme.

Activity #4 and #5:
Read along and word awareness.
The child cvan read along as the rhyme is read, and then the child must click on each word after it is said.

Nursery Rhymes

Learning Objective:
The child will hear and understand words as separate units of speech and develop awareness of concepts of print. (Also includes Hey Diddle Diddle, Humpty Dumpty, and Jack & Jill)

Activity #7:
Silly Questions
The child sees two pictures that rhyme. She then hears a question and clicks on the appropriate picture. Ex: What do you put on your finger?
A Ring or a King?

Activity #8:
Rhyme Time
The child clicks on the pictures that rhyme.

Learning Objective:
To hear and identify rhyming words, understand words as separate units of speech, and develop auditory memory.



Activity #10:
Word Parts
The child hears a word. As it is repeated in syllables, the child is asked to identify the number of syllables.

Activity #11:
Rhyme Time
The child hears a word that is pronounced as separate sounds, with each sound highlighting a bar on the xylophone. The child can then click on the xylophone to hear these sounds.
